The Seven Spirits of God DLHicks 5/15/16
A Great Mystery – A Great Revelation
Two men in the Bible, Isaiah & John, actually were given a look into the very throne room of Almighty God. Although 800 years apart, they saw & described the same throne room in detail with one exception….
Rev 1:4 “John to the seven churches which are in Asia, grace be unto you & peace from Him which is, which was, and which is to come from the Seven Spirits which are before His throne”
Rev 4:5 “And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings & voices. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God”
Rev 5:6 “And I beheld & low, in the midst of the throne, & of the four beasts & in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain (crucifixion of Christ). Having seven horns (horns denoting dominion, seven denotes total dominion) & seven eyes (denotes perfect, pure, complete illumination of all things spiritual). Which are the Seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
One, in His own essence, manifold in His gracious influences & fullness. Before God’s throne, in the presence of…….
Seven expressions of this One Holy Spirit-Seven ways in which He ministers unto men, imparting life, illumination & Godliness.
That is the Great Mystery & the Great Revelation.
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Life
Rom 8:2 “The Spirit of Life in Christ has made me free from the law of sin & death”
Eph 2:1 “And you hath He quickened……”
Gen 1:2 Speaks of…… “the earth, formless, lifeless, void & the Spirit of God (the Spirit of life) moved, (hovering & brooding) over the face of the waters.
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Truth
John 14:17 The Spirit of Truth - He lives in you
John 15:26 The Spirit of Truth - Is your comforter
John 16:13 “When the Spirit of Truth is come, He will guide you into all truth”
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Grace
Zech 12:10 “I will pour out upon the House of David the Spirit of Grace”
Heb 10:29 Speaks of the atoning sacrifice, rejected, contempt for Christ, mocked at the Spirit of Grace that brought Grace. When the cross is rejected, the Holy Spirit is insulted.
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Adoption
Rom 8:15,16 “For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear - but you have received the spirit of adoption (sonship) Whereby we cry Abba Father. V16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the Children of God”
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Holiness
Rom 1:4 “And declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of Holiness by the resurrection from the dead”
As a non-Christian: There will be conviction of sin
As a Christian: A pierced heart when transgressing
A purging work
A striving within you (don’t cast aside the Spirit of Holiness)
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Supplication
Zech 12:9-10 “And it shall come to pass in that day, I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem, and I will pour out upon the House of David & upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of Grace & Supplication” (petition)
Rom 8:26 Paul speaks of the Holy Spirit expressing Himself as the Spirit of Supplication. The Spirit takes hold of us in our weakness & comes to our aid.
- He, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Glory
I Pet 4:14 “If ye be reproached for the Name of Christ – happy are you. For the Spirit of the Glory of God resteth upon you”
The Spirit of Glory will cause you to think in Eternal Values & Not Earthly Values.
You will not fear death nor life.
